Wrinkle Relaxers

(also called: Neuromodulators, botulinum toxin)

Description
BOTOX®, DYSPORT®, JEUVEAU® & XEOMIN® are members of the 'wrinkle relaxer’ class of injectable facial treatments.

The wrinkle relaxer class of injectable treatments (also known as 'neuromodulators') block the nerve impulses that enable the muscle contractions responsible for creating expression lines on the face. Wrinkle relaxers can smooth existing lines and may prevent expression lines from forming. With treatment over time, existing lines may disappear.

Treatment with Wrinkle Relaxers can improve the appearance of existing wrinkles caused by facial expressions. They can also be used in a treatment called “facial shaping” to help improve asymmetry or other facial conditions that result from muscle action.

Wrinkle Relaxers are FDA approved for injection in the glabella (the region between the eyebrows). Wrinkle Relaxers are also commonly used to treat the forehead region, the outer corners of the eyes (crow’s feet), either side of the mid-chin (to treat a down-turned mouth), brows (to enable a 'chemical' brow lift, and the neck (to treat neck bands).

The Aging Process
Over time, the action of certain facial muscles may contribute to the appearance of wrinkles, heaviness of the brow, and the appearance of fatigue, boredom or even anger. When those muscles are weakened, the unfavorable effects of those muscles are diminished.

Candidates for Wrinkle Relaxers
You may be a candidate for Wrinkle Relaxer treatment if you are dissatisfied with facial wrinkles associated with facial muscle action, brow heaviness, the appearance of tiredness or fatigue or emotions that are inconsistent with your intent.

Complementary Procedures
Injectable Wrinkle Fillers may be used in conjunction with Wrinkle Relaxers to aid in improving facial volume loss and those wrinkles that are present at rest. Facial resurfacing procedures may also be considered to improve skin surface irregularities.

Recovery
Temporary redness resolves within minutes. Normal activities are resumed immediately. Instructions are given to avoid certain activities for 1 day.

Injectable Fillers

(also called: Dermal Fillers, Wrinkle Fillers, Volumizers, or simply 'fillers')

Description
JUVEDERM®, RESTYLANE®, BELOTERO®, RADIESSE®, SCULPTRA®, VOLUMA® and others are members of the Injectable Filler class of injectable facial treatments. Members of this class are also referred to as dermal fillers, wrinkle fillers, and volumizers. Fillers are used for augmenting volume-deficient areas such as improving 'static' wrinkles which are visible at rest (in contrast to 'active' wrinkles which are visible only with muscle action). Injectable fillers may be used interchangeably in some cases. Characteristics of the filler material may make certain fillers more favorable for use in certain areas of the face. Fillers differ from each other based upon the component material, reversibility, particle size, viscosity, and expected duration of effect. During your consultation with Dr. Pearson, you will discuss the filler(s) that may be best suited to address your particular concerns and needs.

Injectable Fillers are composed of absorbable materials, many of which naturally occur in the body. The duration of effect depends upon the filler material as well as the anatomical treatment region, and ranges from 4 months to about 24 months.

Injectable Fillers are FDA approved for the treatment of mild to moderate facial creases. They are commonly used to aid in smoothing facial creases of the forehead and brow, plumping the eyebrows or temporal region, smoothing under eye hollows, enhancing the lips and defining a cupid’s bow, enhancing volume and defining contours of the cheeks, chin and jaw line, softening the appearance of scars and other depressed defects, and softening the appearance of bony hands.

The Aging Process
Over time, volume is lost and redistributed from certain facial areas including around the mouth, cheeks, and lips. Wrinkles or creases may form in the facial skin due to a combination of that volume loss and repetitive actions of the facial muscles.

Candidates for Injectable Fillers
You may be a candidate for Injectable Filler treatment if you are dissatisfied with facial wrinkles or with the loss of facial volume.

Complementary Procedures
In conjunction with Injectable Fillers, Wrinkle Relaxers (such as BOTOX® or DYSPORT® or XEOMIN®) may be used for those wrinkles which are present with muscle movement. Facial resurfacing procedures may also be considered to improve skin surface irregularities.
