At the bottom of the page, several services have a dedicated section for Frequently Asked Questions.

What is a Facial Plastic Surgeon?
Facial Plastic Surgeons have undergone rigorous training that focuses on plastic and reconstructive surgery of the face, head and neck. Facial Plastic Surgeons usually undertake a 5-6 year residency in Head & Neck Surgery which prepares them for board eligibility by the American Board of Medical Specialties to practice Head and Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery.

Specialists like Dr. Pearson then go on to complete additional 1-2 years of training called a Fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, under the auspices of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the world’s largest association of facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons. Following Fellowship, with the demonstration of sufficient experience, a surgeon becomes Board Certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Am I a good candidate for Facial Plastic Surgery?
Ideal candidates for facial plastic surgery demonstrate the following characteristics:

    • Healthy
    • Do not smoke or use tobacco
    • Have a positive outlook
    • Have reasonable expectations about what can be accomplished with surgery
    • Understand and accept the risks and limitations of surgery

    Is Facial Plastic Surgery expensive?
The costs involved with Facial Plastic Surgery procedures range widely from a couple hundred to several thousand dollars. Minimally invasive treatments and office-based procedures are generally less expensive than procedures performed in an operating room. While not inexpensive, some individuals do find great value in the improving their appearance, self confidence and outlook.

Are financing options available for treatments with Dr. Pearson?
Yes. Our practice offers a range of financing options through an independent financing service. Read more about financing here.

Is Facial Plastic Surgery covered by medical insurance?
Medical insurance may cover some or all of the costs for procedures performed for functional or reconstructive reasons. Medical insurance does not cover cosmetic treatments.

More information about medical insurance can be found here

Does your office accept medical insurance?
We accept most PPO health insurance as well as Medicare. Please contact us if you have any questions about insurance coverage.

What type of anesthesia is used?
The type of anesthesia used depends upon both the type of procedure planned and the individual patient's preference. In many cases, topical or local anesthesia alone is sufficient to provide patient comfort. In other cases, sedation in an operating suite is recommended. General anesthesia is usually not required.

    Is Facial Plastic Surgery painful?
Each individual perceives pain differently. With appropriate anesthesia and post operative pain control regimen, most people who undergo facial plastic surgery do not describe their experience of pain to be more than uncomfortable for a couple of days.

For how long will I require prescription pain medication?
The duration of prescription medication use varies with each individual. For procedures performed in the operating room, most patients are able to stop taking prescription pain medication after only 2-3 days.

    When will sutures be removed?
In most cases, sutures are generally removed between 5-7 days after your procedure.

When will I be able to return to normal daily activities?
For noninvasive and minimally invasive procedures, normal activities are typically resumed the same day. For surgical procedures, normal activities are resumed in 1-3 days in most instances.

When will I be presentable for appearance in public?
For non-surgical procedures, most individuals feel ready to appear in public either immediately or the next day.

Following surgery, readiness depends upon several factors including: when swelling and bruising are mostly resolved, sutures have been removed, and any residual signs of healing are easily concealed with makeup. Following most surgical procedures, 7-10 days are sufficient for the majority of people.

When may I return to full activity including exercise and exertion?
For noninvasive and minimally invasive procedures, full activity is usually permissible the next day. For surgical procedures, full activity may be resumed by 14-21 days after surgery in most instances

How much time will I need to take off from work?
Time spent away from work varies depending upon the type of procedure performed, the activity level required at work, and individual patient preference. Following noninvasive and minimally invasive procedures, most people return to work the next day. Following surgical procedures, return to work may be permissible within just a few days. For most surgical procedures, people typically return to work after 7-10 days.
